How This Project, AngkorWat Transport.com Came About

My family and I visited Angkor Wat, Siem Reap in Cambodia in March 2008. We spent five days in total staying at hostels and hired a tuk tuk to tour all of Angkor Wat’s ancient temples.

During these five days, we got to know our licensed tuk tuk driver, Mr Sarorn. He was recommended by The Siem Reap Hostel. He speaks English and learning Korean as well.

Mr Sarorn was an ex-monk for ten years after being saved from malaria in a Buddhist monestery. His father was killed during the Khmer Rouge war. His mother has been bedridden since she was involved in a gun shot accident when Mr Sarorn was only six years old. Mr Sarorn is the eldest in the family and has to support his invalid mother and three other siblings who live in a remote village. His siblings are uneducated.

Currently he works as a tuk tuk driver to support his family in the day and pays for his English, Korean and Computer tuition evening class. He is also very knowledgeable about the history of all the ancient temples in Angkor Wat Park. He hopes to save enough to enter the local university to obtain a degree. He wants to work in an international hotel or eventually be an outstanding tourist guide.

My family and I have been fortunate enough to live in a developing country but Mr Sarorn is not that fortunate. If he is lucky, he would get rice with a fish or meat once in a month. Otherwise, he settles to a plate of plain rice and vegetables.

It is my effort to assist, support and contribute to Mr Sarorn’s education fund by setting up this website to enable him to provide his tuk tuk transport service to tourists who plans to visit Angkor Wat Park and its temples.
